Konferenz: Europa des 21. Jahrhunderts
The Faculty of Political Science and Journalism at the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, the European Research and Education Center, Collegium Polonicum in Słubice, and the Political Science Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences – invite all interested parties to take part in the international scientific conference on European issues. Its participants will be scientists representing Polish and foreign research and development institutions, journalists, politicians, and other persons interested in Europe, the European Union and relations the organization has with the closer and farther environment.
The meeting will be a platform for presenting scientific studies on the most recent issues of the Old Continent, including phenomena and processes that have risen, developed, or been discerned in the last two years, particularly the COVID-19 pandemic. During the conference, which is part of the „Europe of 21st Century” cycle and planned for September 16-17, 2021, the participants will present and discuss:
- political, economic, and social consequences of the pandemic in Europe, the EU, the EU Member States, and other selected states located in the EU’s nearest and farther surroundings;
- strategies of limiting the negative consequences of the pandemic;
- internal and external political, economic, social, cultural, intellectual, and many other factors determining Europe’s and the European Union’s development during the pandemic and post-pandemic future;
- sources and intensity of processes influencing on integration effectiveness and the quality of social life in various dimensions (e.g., problems with adhering to EU’s values, a crisis of liberal democracy, migrations, the debt problem, radical social movements development, climate threats, and many others);
- results of the influence of such processes on the general condition of Europe, the European Union, and its Member States;
- effects of hitherto politics of the European Union focused on minimizing outcomes of crisis phenomena;
- opportunities and threats for the development of Europe, particularly the European Union, originating from its environment (including the Near East, North Africa, and post-Soviet states);
- meaning of the cooperation between the European Union and the US, Canada, Russia, Central Asian and other post-Soviet states, China, Turkey, and Iran for ensuring favorable conditions for development;
- role of traditional and modern means of mass communication in the popularization of the idea of European integration and cooperation, and overcoming prejudices, stereotypes, and crisis situations;
- desired and possible directions of changes in the legal and institutional system of the European Union to increase its effectiveness in dealing with crisis situations, and related tasks for decision makers, scientists, and media, including journalists;
- scientific categories and methods useful for conducting scientific studies within the scope defined by the conference’s theme.
he conference’s working language is Polish. Presentations and the discussion during the plenary session will be simultaneously translated to English and Russian. Besides, there are planned additional panels that will be held in these languages. The organizers ensure accommodation, nutrition, and publication of papers accepted by reviewers for all the conference participants.
Due to the restrictions caused by the pandemic, the conference will be organized in the hybrid form. Vaccinated guests are invited to Słubice, where discussions will be held in the rooms of Collegium Polonicum. Participants who do not meet that condition or cannot arrive to Słubice in person will have a possibility of taking part in the event remotely, through the Zoom platform. The organizers stipulate the right to change conditions for participation, if the epidemiological situation worsens.
