Congratulations to Laura Sznajder

We are pleased to inform you that Laura Sznajder, a graduate of the Polish-German Legal Studies program, jointly conducted by the Faculty of Law and Administration of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the Faculty of Law of the European University Viadrina (EUV), has been honored in the 2025 edition of the competition organized by the General Conservator of Monuments and the Association of Monument Conservators for the best diploma theses in the field of heritage protection and museology.

The distinction was awarded for her master’s thesis entitled “Cultural Heritage as Evidence of History: The Role of the International Criminal Court in Protecting Cultural Identity through an Analysis of the Al-Mahdi Case and Its Future Implications,”, which was highly rated by the Competition Committee. The thesis was supervised by Prof. UAM Dr. habil. Anna Gerecka-Żołyńska.

The award ceremony took place on January 28, 2026, at the Museum of King Jan III’s Palace in Wilanów. The awards were presented by Bożena Żelazowska, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and General Conservator of Monuments. In this year’s edition of the competition, a total of 9 prizes (including 2 special awards) and 10 distinctions were granted.

The awarded distinction constitutes recognition of the high academic quality of the thesis and the author’s commitment to issues related to the protection of cultural heritage from the perspective of international law.
