Conference on the 35th Anniversary of Polish-German Cross-Border Cooperation

On February 3, 2026, a Border Guard conference entitled “35 Years of Polish-German Cross-Border Cooperation - Security Without Borders” was held at Collegium Polonicum. The conference accompanied the opening of the new headquarters of the Border Guard unit, as well as the Polish-German Center for Cooperation of Border, Police and Customs Services in Słubice.

During the conference, lectures and presentations were delivered showcasing projects and the outcomes of cooperation between Polish and German services. The event was attended by numerous distinguished guests, including Jan Tombiński, Chargé d’Affaires of the Republic of Poland in Germany; Paweł Dąbrowski, Director of the Department of International Affairs and Migration at the Ministry of the Interior and Administration; Arne Schlatmann from the Federal Ministry of the Interior; René Wilke, Minister of the Interior and Municipal Affairs of the State of Brandenburg; Brigadier General SG Robert Bagan, Commander-in-Chief of the Border Guard; Brigadier General SG Monika Musielak, Commander of the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit; Marek Cebula, Voivode of Lubusz; and Sebastian Ciemnoczołowski, Marshal of the Lubusz Voivodeship.

As emphasized by Acting Director Dr. Bartosz Jagura, Collegium Polonicum is an ideal venue for celebrating the 35th anniversary of Polish-German cross-border cooperation:
“Collegium Polonicum, as a joint institution of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder), has had a cross-border character from the very beginning. It constitutes a key academic hub in the region, whose achievements are also utilized by border services, while graduates of the study programs offered at the Collegium find employment in uniformed services as well. The fundamental difference, however, lies in the fact that while the Border Guard is tasked with protecting borders, Collegium Polonicum strives to continuously transcend them—in academic, educational, and cultural terms.”

Particular interest was drawn by the lecture delivered by Dr. Dariusz Dymek from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, entitled “Joint Response to Cross-Border Crisis Situations.” The lecture presented the results of a research project aimed at strengthening cross-border crisis management in the Polish-German twin city by examining the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) to improve cooperation and communication between the authorities responsible for crisis management.

We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to act as a partner in such an important event for Polish-German cooperation.
