Conference Europe of the 21st Century
On February 5–6, 2026, the 26th International Academic Conference from the series ,,Europe of the 21st Century” was held at Collegium Polonicum.
The ceremonial opening of the conference was attended by representatives of university and local authorities, including Marzena Słodownik, Mayor of Słubice; Prof. Timm Beichelt, Dean of the Faculty of Cultural Studies at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder); Prof. Dagmara Jajeśniak-Quast, Director of the Centre for Polish and Ukrainian Studies at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder); Prof. Szymon Ossowski, Dean of the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań; and Prof. Magdalena Musiał-Karg, President of the Polish Political Science Association.
Prof. Tadeusz Wallas - Rector’s Plenipotentiary for University Development at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the originator of the conference - emphasized the importance of establishing, years ago, a platform for joint discussions on issues relevant to Europe. The conference remains the largest Polish political science event devoted to European topics.
This year’s edition, entitled ,,The Resilience of Europe, the European Union and Its Member States to Security Threats: Current State and Future Scenarios,” brought together nearly 160 participants from Poland, Ukraine, Germany, Kazakhstan, and other European countries.
The event was organized by the Faculty of Political Science and Journalism at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and Collegium Polonicum in Słubice. The partners of this year’s edition included the Centre for European Research and Education and the Institute of National Remembrance. The two-day proceedings featured plenary sessions as well as 18 thematic panels. The presentations focused on key challenges facing contemporary Europe, such as international security, energy transition, migration, academic freedom, disinformation, and the future of European integration.
We are pleased that the conference has been continuously held at Collegium Polonicum since its inception - a place that symbolizes the meeting of cultures, ideas, and academic communities of Europe.
